Heavy evening winds expected on the Central Coast

A possibility of damaging winds in the forecast brings back memories of major wind destruction for anyone who worked at Westmont College’s Library.

The building is located below the base of a canyon giving people inside a great view, but sits right in the path of dangerous winds.

Employees remember two separate incidents where winds did much more than howl.

The first incident occurred over Christmas Break in 2014. No one was injured, but the wind broke many windows, knocked over books and concrete ceilings.

The college replaced the windows that were there since the 1960’s with tempered glass.

It was tested against another wind storm three months later. Several glasses were cracked, but did not break.
