Santa Barbara residents discuss safety concerns at Ortega Park

Police, Parks & Recreation officers and others met to discuss Ortega Park on Wednesday night.

They met in the MTD meeting room to share their concerns about people who are hanging out in the park creating a nuisance.

Bea Molina, the president of the Milpas Community Association, said “There was money put into Ortega park to improve it, but it doesn’t go far enough. Drinking, gambling, panhandling and God knows what else goes on there.”

Santa Barbara City Council member Jason Dominguez hopes to solve the problem by bringing people together.

Some city workers said year-round activities would help the park.
