Oxnard man struck by train in Ventura

An Oxnard man was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a train near the Seaward Avenue overcrossing in Ventura on Thursday.

According to a press release from Ventura Police Department, at around 5:30 p.m. officers received a call from Amtrak Dispatch Center about a train hitting a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, VPD and Ventura Fire Department discovered a 31-year-old man who sustained an injury to his arm.

The investigation determined that the man was attempting to cross the tracks on his bicycle when the train approached. The man then picked up the bicycle and continued walking along the side of the tracks.

The man was struck by the train in the arm and knocked to the ground. The train stopped and the engineer notified the dispatch center.

The man was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

According to VPD, traffic was not effected by the accident and the train was able to resume its travel once the scene was cleared.

Ventura police would like to remind citizens that walking near train tracks is dangerous and pedestrians should only cross in designated areas.
