Unique ‘Pop Up’ Truck Store Features Local Crafts

Pop up food truck businesses have been come very trendy, but now one entrepreneur has created a truck full of local crafts.

Stabiles was parked along Cabrillo Blvd. in Santa Barbara today and the owner Samuel Guzman, was displaying many items made locally including some of his own work.

Blown glass, wire creations, small sculptures, pillows and one-of-a-kind lights were among the items for sale. Guzman knows the artisans and has worked with many of them over the years, including when he was a manager at higher end resorts locally.

“They are my colleagues and friends because they are focusing on one product and they are really executing it well. I think that is the way to be successful versus doing too many things,” said Guzman.

He also says the items spark conversations. Many have been sent out as gifts that have gone around the world.

Plants were part of the selection, and they were mainly “air plants” requiring very little water.

He could not say exactly where the truck would be parked in the future or for how long. That creates some of the uniqueness about this business.
