Sand berm goes up at Santa Barbara Harbor and Leadbetter Beach

Heavy equipment has been working all day at Leadbetter Beach and the Santa Barbara Harbor area to build a sand berm as a form of protection against winter storms.

The wall of sand has been built up in front of the Yacht Club, and nearby parking lot.

This work is done annually by the city.

Other areas, including Carpinteria will also build a sand berm in the weeks ahead near the city beach and waterfront homes.

During several past storms, heavy waves at high tides have gone past the beach into the parking lot and business area at the harbor.
