Port of Hueneme feeling sequestratrion cuts

Cargo ships may no longer be inspected by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers after their normal working hours.

Federal budget cuts caused by sequestration have made it impossible to pay inspectors overtime when ships come into the Port of Hueneme at night or on weekends.

On Monday, importers had to pay dock workers who were ready to unload cars and produce, but the ships had not yet been inspected.

Port customers are concerned that ships will be backed up and forced to wait offshore.

Tuesday, Port of Hueneme officials went to Long Beach to talk about the consequences. They hope Congress will hear their stories and act.
