Old Mission Santa Barbara looks for donations to help with Christmas decorations

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Mission is looking for community donations to complete its holiday decorations this year.

With so many people tight on funds coming through the pandemic, donations have been lean and a special request has been made for funds for the decoration project.

The decorations will be going up December 21.

Already the Nativity scene is up.

Director of Visitor Services at the Old Mission Santa Barbara Elizabeth Bryson said, "we wanted to find some type of opportunity to not only to engage with the community in a special way but a fun creative way to support the Mission."

Donation levels range from $25. to $750.

"They can sponsor an ornament, a wreath or a Christmas tree   and they can dedicate it to their loved ones,  it can be a memorial to,  or in honor of, sponsor a family. They will hang all along the mission portico and we will have trees in front  of the mission church and in front of the portico as well," said Bryson.

The decorations are for the outside of the mission only. Altar decorations are funded by St. Barbara's Parish.

The decorations go up right before Christmas so they can remain fresh through the Epiphany in early January.

Bryson said,  "it is especially fun to see the mission come to life  and have that Christmas cheer."
