Annual Fiesta Costume Sale dances back to Carriage and Western Art Museum
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— The annual Fiesta Costume Sale danced back to the Carriage and Western Art Museum this morning.
Shoppers showed us some of the great deals and the unique pieces they walked away with.
“This was $30 dollars. This was $10,” said Carol Akin.
Vibrant pops of color decorated the booths of dozens of local businesses Saturday morning.
“A lot of it's retro, a lot of it is costumes from the dancers. There's shoes. There's hats. Yes. They're selling the pins. And we have the pamphlets,” said Akin.
Fiesta lovers were thrilled to find fun dresses for August’s festivities, getting a taste of what to expect for Old Spanish Days.
“Fiesta fashion is like none other other than Spain, you know. So we have a little slice of Europe here in Santa Barbara,” said Donna Weidl, who is the Old Spanish Days Associate Director.
She purchased 9 dresses and says she is happy to support these local businesses.
“My first experience it in a parade was the Fiesta Parade before I could even speak English as an immigrant,” said Weidl.
This event is a win- win for customers and local businesses.
“I’m just really excited to support all of the vendors and especially when they're here supporting our local traditions like Fiesta,” said local Abbey Fragosa.
“That's always the fun thing is meeting new people and everybody leaving happy with something fun that they find,” said Laura Reyes, who owns Hermanas Recycled Clothing with her sister.
Almost all the items here are second hand. buying second hand doesn’t only help the environment… it also ensures people are snagging unique pieces.
“These are vintage outfits from Los Ninos de las Flores, and we're selling them. And then we have our bake sale over here, which we're selling those to gain money for the Los Ninos de la Flores Youth Program,” said 11 year old Samantha Brewer.
“These are custom made dresses. You can’t buy them off the rack,” said Abbey Fragosa.
The next major Fiesta sale will be Mercado de la Guerra on August 2nd.
