Lobster and Sea Urchins sell at Seafood Fest

Santa Barbara Harbor and Seafood Festival drew a crowd

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) The Santa Barbara Harbor and Seafood Festival brought out thousands of people to the waterfront

The 23rd annual event is timed to celebrate the opening of lobster season.

"It is the best time of year to come buy lobster opening season everybody comes together for harbor festival." said Daniel Roslan of Garrigan Seafood Co.

The Santa Barbara Harbor has more than 100 commercial fisherman who bring in millions of pounds of seafood each year.

And many of them take part in the annual festival.

The fisherman let children see the live lobster up close.

People of all ages tasted sea urchin also known as uni.

Many tried it for the first time.

A couple fed uni to each other in a romantic exchange.

If seafood fans want more there is a market weekly.

"I would love for people to know that they can get the freshest seafood directly from their local fisherman here every Saturday 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.," said Saturday Fisherman's Market Manager Daniel O'Shea.

In addition to trying all the fresh seafood people enjoyed boat rides including Lil' Toot and visiting the tall ship Mystic Whaler.
