BUELLTON, Calif. - The Buellton Chamber of Commerce teamed up with Flying Flags RV Resort and Sideways Inn to hold “physically-distancing” Easter egg hunts. They also worked with residents to bring the egg hunts to kids during the shelter at place.

“What they decided to do is take the egg hunt to the children this year,” said Executive Director of Buellton Chamber of Commerce Kathy Vreeland.

“We have some Easter egg cutouts that we have painted,” said Sideway's Inn General Manager Lydia Thomas.

The group placed the cutouts around town at different businesses for neighbors to drive by and see while out on their Easter egg hunt.

“It's just really a community effort. Highlighting our Buellton businesses and making them know that we care and we are here for them,” said Vreeland.

The Chamber of Commerce says the idea was not to get people to visit Buellton businesses but rather to remember and support them during COVID-19.

“So we thought this would be a great idea for families to be able to get out and get some fresh air. And for the little ones to be able to still have an egg hunt but with social distancing,” said Thomas.

Participants who submit photos of the eggs will be included in a drawing for a grand prize.

“The prize will be a two night stay at Flying Flags Resort in one of our luxury tents next to the swimming pool,” said Thomas.

Those that join in on the fun only need to submit a minimum of one egg photo to qualify for the drawing.

“One of the reasons we decided to do this is because we are social distancing to flatten the curve,” said Thomas.

The Chamber also helped organize an Easter egg hunt where locals hid Easter eggs for community members who wanted to be included. Other neighbors dressed up as the Easter Bunny wearing gloves and masks to deliver the eggs.

“The community of Buellton has been so strong and supportive and really working together through this and this is a fun activity to bring some cheer into a dark time,” said Vreeland.

Any egg hunt participants can submit their photos of the eggs they spotted via email at flyingflags@highwaywestvacations.com or through Facebook Messenger at Flying Flags RV Resort & Campground.
