Local church helps out homeless people in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – A local church helps people in need in Santa Maria with basic necessities.

Volunteers from the Pacific Christian Church set aside two Sundays out of the month to help the homeless and less fortunate people in the community.

Owners of the local coffee shop “My Place Coffee” closed down their shop just to set up a place for food, clothes, and mobile showers.

A professional barber goes and provides free haircuts.

The volunteers say the people in need are thankful for these resources, as many could not afford some of these things.

“We cut hair here the second and the fourth Sundays of the month,” said Barber of Beacon Barber Shop Winston Benny. “Usually, I'll get here between 12 and 1:00. We officially start at 1:00, and then we'll sometimes work up to like 330. Some days we'll cut up to 12:15 heads for as many barbers as we have, you know. So sometimes I'll cut six, seven, eight female kids, you name it.”

This has been going on at this same location for the last two years. Now the hope is to continue to keep this tradition going for the next coming years.

Pacific Christian Church is looking for volunteers.
