‘Condor Comeback’ tells story of California Condor, scientists who brought them back from the brink
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A new book about the incredible return of the California Condor is flying high into book stores. Condor Comeback tells the story of what it took to save the condor from near-extinction.
"This is a terrific time to share the thrilling success story of the condor comeback with readers of all ages,” says author Sy Montgomery. "At a time when we hunger for healing and connection, here we present one of the world's most creative, collective and concentrated conservation efforts of all time."
The book features several conservation scientists from the Santa Barbara Zoo, who have played a key role in the California Condor Recovery Program.
"At the low point there were just 22 [condors] remaining," Estelle Sandhaus from the Santa Barbara Zoo said. "Now through successful breeding and release we have over 518 condors in the world and 337 of those are flying free in the wild."
Condor Comeback is available where books are sold.
