Santa Maria Town Center Mall Movie Theater prepares for possible reopening
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Errol Guidry is excited that the movie theater at the Santa Maria town center mall could reopen as soon as next week.
"I’ll go and a see movie for sure. Oh yeah," said Guidry.
The Regal Edwards Theater could reopen next week if Santa Barbara county's Coronavirus transmission rate stays low enough for the state reopening plan.
If state and county leaders give the green light, every customer will be required to wear a mask, keep a physical distance and the theater will only allow a 25 percent occupancy at a time.
"I’m excited for the movie theater to open... people have nothing to do sometimes at night and to get people in movie theaters ... and back to a normal life ... will come together," said movie goer Eric Payne.
If the theater is approved to reopen, the first show will be Tuesday evening.
"It’ll be good for like everybody here like you said the foot traffic and I think it’s really going to help everybody out," said Joe Holicky with Gina's Piece of Cake.
Crews will be using a ULV fogger to disinfect surfaces throughout each theater.
And all employees will be required to have their temperature taken at the start of every shift.
As everyone keeps an eye on the state metrics, movie goers say they have many reasons to be excited.
"I’m in it for the popcorn. I’m in it to watch some of the new releases that are coming out ... some of the new movie releases just don’t look good on the 40 inch TV as they do on the 40 foot TV," said Payne.
