Central Coast schools respond to social media threats deemed non-credible Friday morning

CENTRAL COAST, Calif. – Law enforcement officials in Texas have informed schools in the Central Coast region of a non-credible social media-based threatening post from Texas.

Santa Maria Joint Union High School District detailed that all of their schools will be operating normally, but as a precautionary measure, Santa Maria Police Department and Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office as well as school security teams will have an increased presence.

The City of Paso Robles also relayed that a screenshot of threats was determined to be from Texas and not credible according to Paso Robles Police Department.

The Paso Robles Police Department also informed the community that even if threats are deemed non-credible, criminal charges may be still be pursued against the source and that sharing these types of threats via social media instead of informing law enforcement caused undue stress to the community.

According to the City of Paso Robles, the social media-based threats did not specifically mention Paso Robles and were shared across the Central Coast region.
