UPDATE: One killed, one arrested in Highway 101 crash at Padaro Lane
CARPINTERIA Calif. - An accident on Highway 101 between Summerland and Carpinteria killed one person Friday morning according to the California Highway Patrol.
Around 2:18 a.m. the crash was reported at the Padaro Lane exit on Southbound 101. CHP says the driver of a silver Nissan sedan drove into the back of an asphalt dump truck then veered off the road and into two trees. The driver suffered major injuries. The passenger in the Nissan was killed. The driver of the dump truck was not hurt.
The driver, a 21-year-old from Oxnard was arrested at the hospital for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Friday morning train service was stopped for several hours as officials worked to remove debris from the tracks. Union Pacific Railroad has inspected the tracks and at 6:10 a.m. they reopened.
A previous version of this story used information provided to News Channel 3-12 from officers at the scene. It stated two people were killed in the crash. That was not true.
