Total turnaround! San Marcos girls soccer wins the CIF-SS Division 5 championship after struggling in 2019 and 2020 season.
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - San Marcos High School girls soccer is on top of the CIF-SS Division 5 and no many saw this coming.
The Royals Caroline Mikkelson scored in the 63rd minute off of a corner kick from Rebecca Rodriguez and San Marcos defeated Paraclete 1-0 in the championship game on their home field.
It is the first girls soccer CIF-SS title for San Marcos since 2006.
The Royals are a perfect 16-0 according to Maxpreps.com and have 11 shutouts on the season.
It is a remarkable turnaround as San Marcos won just two games in 2019 and had just one victory in 2020.
San Marcos advances to next week's CIF SoCal Regional Championship.
