Saragoza and Spence lead Dons to first round CIF playoff win in girls basketball

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Athena Saragoza scored 23 points and Jaeda Spence added 18 points and 12 rebounds as Santa Barbara cruised by Mira Costa 69-43 in a CIF-SS Division 2AA first round playoff game.

The Dons are the 23rd seed but they took control of the game in the second quarter against the ninth-seeded Mustangs.

Santa Barbara outscored Mira Costa 19-7 in the second quarter to lead 33-17 at half and never looked back.

Caia Trimble played well in the win as well as she scored 9 points with seven assists and had several steals.

The Dons will host Crean Lutheran on Saturday in a second round game.
