Oxnard woman dies after being stabbed by husband in home
OXNARD, Calif. - An Oxnard woman has died after being found fatally stabbed by her husband in her home Friday night.
Police said they responded to reports of a stabbing victim on the 1100 block of West Hemlock Street around 9:55 p.m.
Upon arriving, they found 27-year-old Karla Cabrera suffering from multiple stab wounds in her home. Officers were told that Cabrera's husband had stabbed her before running from the residence. Police said other family members including the couple's two small children were inside the home at the time of the incident.
Police immediately began searching for the husband. He was quickly found hiding in a nearby alley suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds.
The 36-year-old man was arrested and transported to a hospital for medical treatment where he is currently being guarded by police.
Officers said Cabrera was also transported to the hospital, but she sadly died from her wounds.
The Oxnard Police Department Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and has taken over the investigation along with the Oxnard Police Department Family Protection Unit.
This is the sixth homicide in Oxnard this year. The fifth, also a stabbing, occurred just days before on Cypress Road.
