Some Lucia Mar Unified School District students return to in-person learning after 11 months

UPDATE:  In-person class was held at some southern San Luis Obispo County students for the first time in 11 months.

The first group of transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students attended class in person at Nipomo Elementary for the first time this year, spending 2.5 hours in the classroom

Teachers say students were excited for their first day, and administrators continue to emphasize that safety is their priority.

A total of two groups of students are in the same classroom a day.

“We are not letting parents on campus,” said Nipomo Elementary School Principal Julia Bowles. “Students got out of their cars, waved goodbye, and as soon as the students leave, an educator goes and cleans all surfaces.”

Distance learning is still an option for parents who don't want to send their kids back to school yet.

NIPOMO, Calif.– After 11 months of distance learning, some elementary students at Lucia Mar Unified School District returned to school for in-person learning.

TK-K students are the first to return, the rest of elementary grades are pending with a set date.
