DUI suspected in rollover crash on Highway 101 in Nipomo
NIPOMO, Calif. - The CHP has identified the two people injured in a crash near the Highway 101 and Highway 166 interchange in Nipomo, and investigators believe DUI was involved.
CHP officers say Justin Koslosky, 18, of Solvang and Cynthia Hawkins, 57, of Pismo Beach were hurt in the crash around 11:45 p.m. Sunday. The crash shut down the freeway for nearly an hour early Monday morning.
Investigators say Koslosky was driving his Ford Focus on northbound Highway 101 at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended Hawkins' vehicle. The CHP did not say exactly how fast he was going.
Her car ended up crashing into the center median and blocking one lane of the highway.
Officers say Koslosky's car went down an embankement and across the HIghway 166 on-ramp to northbound Highway 101 where it hit a separate dirt embankment and then flipped onto its roof.
Officers say Koslosky suffered major injuries and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Hawkins also suffered major injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
