Man convicted for multiple burglaries of schools and homes in Ventura County
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. -- Ventura County District Attorney's Office announced the conviction of a former local businessman on Wednesday in Ventura County.
A jury convicted Cory Fletcher, 47, of Oxnard for 12 counts of felony burglary, including four first-degree residential burglaries, one burglary of an uninhabited house and seven burglaries of schools throughout Ventura County.
From February 1, 2016 to March 31, 2016, Fletcher executed a series of residential and school burglaries with the aid of his 19-year-old employee and a 17-year-old relative of Fletcher's fiancé.
Fletcher and his group targeted tablets and computers purchased by local school districts to improve classroom learning.
On one occasion, Fletcher burglarized the home of a Dos Caminos Elementary School teacher, stole her keys and burglarized the school later that night.
During the two-month period of the burglaries, Fletcher also burglarized the home of an 89-year-old Camarillo resident three times and stole in excess of $10,000 in art and jewelry.
Fletcher's sentencing is scheduled for December 2, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. in courtroom 48 at the Ventura County Superior Court.
Fletcher faces up to 15 years and 4 months in the California Department of Corrections and rehabilitation.
