VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) - Already strong Santa Ana winds have had an affect on residents on the South Coast with outages and flying debris.

Drivers on Highway 101 and Highway 150 towards Ojai report a variety of wind impacts from branches hitting their cars to debris and dangerous objects on the roadways where they are driving.

One driver said going to her work place it was dangerous and she felt unsafe on the roadway during the commute, not knowing what could happen next with the winds.

Southern California Edison has activated power shuts offs in pre-determined areas where winds could bring down power lines and spark fires.

Residents were forewarned and a website indicates areas where potential outages could take place along with outages that have be authorized.

Special sites have been established to help people who have no power at home in case they need information or a place to charge their phones.

Most of the sites where power is cut off in Ventura or Santa Barbara Counties were south of Carpinteria by mid morning but it could change at any moment.

They include La Conchita, Faria Beach, Mussels Shoals and areas east of Ojai.

In Santa Barbara County, they include East Camino Cielo and Paradise Road.
