CARPINTERIA, Calif. (KEYT) The Carpinteria Planning Commission voted 3-to-1 to approve the controversial Surfliner project.

David Allen, John Moyer, Glenn La Fevers voted yes.

Jane L. Benefield voted no.

Alexandra "Xy" VanAntwerp recused herself at the last marathon meeting saying she felt threatened with a lawsuit and accused of being biased.

The latest Surfliner Inn design has 36 rooms with a rooftop bar and pool.

The city would lease the land to the developers.

The land is currently a parking lot by the train station off Linden Ave.

The commissioners deliberated for hours and took some breaks to allow staff to fine-tune parking and noise prevention elements before the final vote.

They also unanimously approved the Environmental Impact Report.

The Carpinteria City Council will have the final say.
