California Avocado Festival Turns 40

CARPINTERIA, Calif. (KEYT) A grower balanced an avocado on the seal fountain in Carpinteria on Friday.

It is a tradition marking the opening the California Avocado Festival in Carpinteria.

The festival that celebrates Peace, Love & Guacamole is turning 40.

The celebration included cake and avocado ice cream at party for sponsors.

The free festival takes place along Linden Ave.

Some locals and visitors dress in green for the occasion.

There is also an area where people can learn about the history of the crop along the coast.

The avocado festival known for live music.

Doublewide Kings performed on the main stage on Friday night when members of Carpinteria High School were celebrating their 50th reunion.

There are more than 60 bands taking part through the weekend.

Pit crews are working behind the scenes to make the performances shine.

There will be an guacamole contest on Sunday when the festival continues from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
