Surfers Hang Ten at Queen of the Point
VENTURA, Calif. (KEYT) Queen of the Point put the spotlight on female longboard surfers.
Women and girls took part in the 3-day competition at Surfer's Point.
People watched them hang ten from the boardwalk north of the Ventura Pier.
Professional surfers came from Hawaii, Brazil , and other parts of the world in hopes of being crowned Queen of the Point
"I'm so happy to be here in California, Ventura," said Luana Soares from Brazil, "This competition Queen of the Point -I love it."
"I love the Queen of the Point contest, it feels very community based and I love how it is all female it feels very empowering," said Joie Kaiu from Waikiki.
Sponsors included realtor Jeff Belzer considers it one of the best competitions in the region.
"You have the best surfers in the world and then you have some that are just novice and just staring out and they get to surf so many heats and the comradery that is happening that is multi-generational that 's women, women-centered, there is nothing else like it, it is clean, it is neat, a great atmosphere and I am just happy to be apart of it," said Belzer.
The pros showed their support for each other as they returned to shore following their heats.
Then some of the youngest surfers headed out.
