Fall is quickly approaching, Monday Sept 21st forecast

Despite the dark and at times ominous looking clouds, we did not see any measurable rainfall today other than a few drops here and there in our foothills and mountains. A cut off low pressure system will continue to push inland just to our north which mean more clouds and the very slight chance for a sprinkle will stay in play. With the upper level cloud cover, marine layer fog will be a bit harder to track, but patchy fog is expected along our coast in to early Monday morning. Overnight lows will dip in to the 50's and lower 60's. Cloud cover will thin through the day with better clearing toward the evening which means temperatures will stay on the mild side with widespread 60's and 70's expected.

Looking ahead, as we head toward the middle of next week, high pressure will fill in behind our current West Coast trough. This will lead to some noticeable warming by Tuesday and more so on Wednesday with many inland areas seeing some 90's returning. Coastal areas will stay cooler with late night and early morning fog remaining in play, but warming is expected there as well. By late in the work week, another area of low pressure will drop south from the Pacific Ocean and that should bring cooler weather as we head in to the last weekend of September. However, the Eastern Pacific Tropical Storm and Hurricane season is still very energized and our forecast models see a potential significant system developing over the next few days. Early tracking models show it staying close to the coast of Baja which means high surf impacts and maybe a threat for rain will come in to play either next weekend or early the following week.  We will monitor closely and let you know as we get closer to next weekend.
