Hurricane Marie lingering, Sept 7th labor Day forecast

Hurricane Marie has now become primary weather story with rain, which has been on the moderate to even briefly heavy at times, for areas south of Santa Barbara. Our radar still shows the potential for more showers with continued focus in our southern areas, but chances for at least a few sprinkles exist region wide. Overnight lows will stay on the mild side with all the extra humidity acting like an insulation layer or blanket. Labor Day Monday should be much sunnier and therefore warmer as we see this current band of Marie moisture off to our east. Look for afternoon highs to be in the 70's for the coast with 80's to about 90 degrees expected farther inland.

Looking ahead, we will be seeing the affects from Marie lasting well in to next week as the storm slowly trudges northwestward. Rain chances will continue to be there for Tuesday and Wednesday, but confidence will still be low with regard to where and how much. We don't think anything significant will occur with this tricky tropical cyclone, but it will need hour to hour monitoring to keep ahead of any surprises. Temperatures will warm a few degrees over the next few days, with our warmest inland areas getting on the hot side and even seeing a triple digit by Wednesday. With the tropical clouds streaming northward, lower level fog shouldn't be too much of a concern as the onshore flow stays on the mild side. Again, Marie induced rain chances will linger toward the upcoming mid week and we will keep you informed daily if anything significant, such as possible thunderstorm development, becomes more likely. Surf Advisories and coastal flood potential will be our only weather alerts for now and will last through about Tuesday.
