LOMPOC, Calif. (KEYT) – Emergency personnel responded a hazardous materials incident at the federal correctional complex in Lompoc that temporarily hospitalized two employees Monday.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, two employees at the federal facility were transported to a local hospital following a possible exposure around 10:30 a.m. Monday, but no additional information about the material nor nature of the exposure was shared in the email from the Bureau of Prisons.

The employees have been released from the hospital added the federal corrections agency.

Firefighters from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department joined the Lompoc City Fire Department at the low-security, federally-operated correctional facility on Klein Boulevard.

The official cause of the response is currently under investigation shared the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

The response was not a drill added the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the City of Lompoc noted Monday afternoon that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

That facility is one of two in the same area northwest of Lompoc.

The prison complex on Klein Boulevard houses over 2000 inmates in the facility and adjacent minimum security camps.

Monday's incident and impact are part of an evolving emergency response and more information will be added to this article as it is confirmed.
