Alan Osio arrested for arson and homicide following house fire in Arroyo Grande
ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – One man has been arrested, one woman was injured, and a third person was declared dead at the scene of a house fire in the 200 block of Spruce Street in Arroyo Grande Monday.
29-year-old Alan Osio killed his father, 59, and attempted to kill his mother, 59, after setting his parents' house on fire, according to Cal Coast News.
According to the Arroyo Grande Police Department, officers were initially called to the area to check the welfare of a woman who reported she had been assaulted.
The woman was found in the roadway with injuries. She told officers she had been stabbed, as well as her husband.
The mother reported the father was inside the nearby home in the 200 block of Spruce Street. When officers entered the home to investigate, they discovered the home was on fire and called for Five Cities Fire Authority detailed the Arroyo Grande Police Department.
An engine company was dispatched around 6:07 p.m. to a call for medical aid and while en route, the response was upgraded to a structure fire with people inside explained Five Cities Fire Authority in a press release Tuesday.
Osio, reportedly armed with a weapon, had barricaded himself inside of the home with another person as the fire was seen growing on both the first and second stories of the home detailed Five Cities Fire Authority.
According to Arroyo Grande Police, Osio attempted to exit the burning house through the second story. A ladder was put up in attempt to reach him before he threw it from the balcony, eventually jumping from the second-story balcony.
Osio attempted to leave the scene while holding a knife and a blowtorch, but was eventually taken into custody with K-9 assistance.
Five Cities Fire Authority added that Osio ignited other fires in neighboring yards while attempting to flee the area.
Inside of the building, the father was eventually found where medical aid was attempted but declared dead on the scene. Official cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy explained the Arroyo Grande Police Department.
The mother's injuries are non-life threatening.
Osio was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail for arson on an occupied dwelling, attempted homicide, and homicide detailed the Arroyo Grande Police Department.
Alan Osio is reported known to Arroyo Grande law enforcement.
The investigation into this incident is still ongoing, but the Arroyo Grande Police Department shared that sufficient evidence was collected at the scene to book the son on the above charges.
