SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a forklift fire near Santa Maria around 11:15 a.m. Monday.

The incident was first reported as a tractor fire, but the fire department later clarified it was a forklift that caught fire.

According to the fire department, the fire happened in an industrial area on East Betteravia Road, east of Highway 101 and outside Santa Maria city limits.

A News Channel crew at the scene captured images of firefighters spraying a burned forklift. No flames were visible at the time.

Firefighters say the forklift operator and other workers at the site tried to put the fire out.

The fire department says the forklift had an ammonia tank that was threatened by the fire.

No injuries were reported and the fire was knocked down just before noon.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
