Fire burns home in Arroyo Grande, neighbor raises money for displaced family

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – Three people are now displaced following a house fire on Via La Barranca in Arroyo Grande early Friday morning. A neighbor and his friends are now raising money for the displaced family.

The fire broke out around 12:24 a.m. on Friday, July 5. Fire crews arrived to find a large shop and several vehicles already on fire and the flames spreading into a nearby residence and hillside vegetation detailed Five Cities Fire Authority.

Aggressive efforts by fire crews prevented the fire from reaching further into the involved home as well as nearby homes. Despite those efforts, three people were displaced by the fire and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation shared the Five Cities Fire Authority.

Danny Whalen and his friends set up a lemonade stand nearby to raise money for the family.

"I just want to be able to hand them a stack of cash so they can have it for groceries or if they don't have time to go to the bank I can just hand this to them," said Whalen.

He plans to sell lemonade all weekend.
