California Highway Patrol hosts human trafficking classes at Allan Hancock College
SANTA MARIA, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) hosted a human trafficking training at Allan Hancock College for law enforcement agencies and the public to learn more about human trafficking on the Central Coast this Thursday.
The class was an educational opportunity and training for people on patrol or those who witness trafficking first hand. Over 200 officers from Northern and Southern California participated.
The class was ran by Rick Geiss, a CHP officer for 21 years and expert investigator of human trafficking cases. He has since been assigned to the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force and testified in numerous court hearings for his experience.
A previous Human Trafficking event earlier this year hosted by the Rotary Club of Santa Maria inspired this class to become available. Many people from across the Central Coast took an interest to learn more and help combat human trafficking.
The class will help educate attendees on identifying indicators, terminology, social media, case study, trends and best practices.
