Scattered showers Thursday, heading into an extended period of wet weather

High temperatures are decreasing again slightly Thursday as rain chances pop back up in the forecast. Most of the region will be in the mid 50s to low 60s.

There is a chance of scattered rain showers for all today, but chances are highest on the Central Coast. We will receive up to a third of an inch on the Central Coast, with less south of Point Conception. Mid and upper level clouds will fill in a bit more, and stick around through Friday.

A high surf advisory has been extended for both the Central Coast and Ventura coast, expiring at 9:00 am Thursday. Breaking waves will be 8 to 12 feet and 5 to 8 feet respectively.

The next system will move through Northern California Friday, and we may see some pre-frontal showers by the evening or overnight.

Rain is very likely Saturday. If you have New Year's Eve plans outside, you may want contingency plans. The region should receive another couple of inches of rainfall with snow at resort level. Winds will be gusty.

We dry out temporarily again New Year's Day. There is a slight chance of rain Monday ahead of a larger midweek rain system.
