Monday morning forecast June 14th

Temperatures are continuing to warm for Flag Day. The region is above average with coasts in the 70s to 80s and the inland in the 80s to 90s.

The ridge of high pressure is moving near the Four Corners, bringing the heat with it. Onshore flow is weakening, thinning out the marine layer pattern. Winds will return to the South Coast and Santa Barbara County mountains in the evening with a wind advisory likely.

A red flag warning will go into effect on the Santa Barbara County South Coast and mountains Monday at 6:00 pm and expire Wednesday at 6:00 am. The region will continue to warm Tuesday, and sundowners winds will dry out relative humidity in Santa Barbara County. Hot temperatures and dry fuels combined with wind will elevate fire risk.

An excessive heat warning will go into effect Tuesday and last through Friday in the Santa Barbara and Ventura County mountains with temperatures up to 108 degrees. It will also go into effect in the Santa Ynez Valley and Ventura County valleys through Wednesday before downgrading to a watch through Friday.

Likewise, an excessive heat watch will go into effect on the South Coast Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening, and on the Central Coast for the duration of Wednesday.

Wednesday will be the hottest day of the week on the coast and in valleys as high pressure expands more northwesterly. Coastal areas will be 10 to 15 degrees above normal, and some interior areas may reach the triple digits with potential to break record highs.

Coastal areas will see some minor relief from the heat by Thursday, but the interior will change very little.
