Three former UCSB baseball players are leading an enhanced skills program for kids at Goleta Valley South Little League.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - It is not often that kids get coached by current professional baseball players let alone three of them.

But former UCSB star baseball players Tommy Jew, JJ Muno and Thomas Rowan were looking for some way to give back to the Santa Barbara community after their minor league seasons were cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The three found a home on the Goleta Valley South Little League fields.

Kids ages 6-13 are participating in an enhanced skills program which is about teaching the players some baseball fundamentals but mostly about getting the kids outside again during this pandemic and having fun.

GVSLL worked closely with Santa Barbara County Health and parents to put in a safe program in which the kids are placed in small cohorts.

With the three pros leading the skills program, the sessions have all sold out which is bringing in much-needed revenue to GVSLL which lost their spring season due to the pandemic.
