Laguna Blanca soccer player Luca Wahlberg commits to Claremont McKenna
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Laguna Blanca standout soccer player Luca Wahlberg will continue his playing career at Claremont-McKenna College this fall. Claremont-McKenna is a member of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and is coming off back-to-back conference titles. This past fall, the Stags advanced to the 3rd round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
Wahlberg was named 1st Team All Tri-Valley League in both his junior and senior years for his efforts on the pitch. The Owls playmaker and leading scorer was recruited by a number of different schools but ultimately chose Claremont-McKenna for its outstanding reputation in both academics and athletics. An accomplished student-athlete at the high school level, Luca will look to find continued success in the classroom as well as on the soccer field.
“I chose Claremont McKenna knowing that even though soccer has always been my great passion, the incredible education and personal attention I'll receive there will offer me great opportunities later on when it's time to hang up my cleats,” says Wahlberg. “The 5-college consortium offers a unique and diverse experience and made it even more interesting to me. I'm really looking forward to everything Claremont has to offer.”
Laguna Blanca Coach Gof Boyoko, who just finished his fifth year as Head Coach, says Luca is the smartest soccer player he’s coached since he’s been at Laguna. “He is gifted technically and has a great vision for the game. Luca is the type of player who can change a game with one play. He is not only a good soccer player, but he also excels in the classroom,” he adds. “Claremont is a great school and I believe it's a great fit for Luca.”
