Workers and athletes feel the heat
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) It isn't easy to beat the heat when the temperatures feel like they are breaking records.
For those working outdoors or in green houses at Gallup & Stribling Orchids in there is no escaping it.
"it is very hot we get to double the amount of water fans are running, lots of energy costs we are going everything we can cool the crops down just like humans we get uncomfortable the plants aren't comfortable either," said Alex Van Wingerden.
One surfer along the coast complained about his car's air-conditioning.
"My vents don't work on the air conditioner definately can't wait top jump in the ocean.
Some college students headed straight to the beach after class.
While Wet Wednesday Sailors raced offshore, Wednesay Night Moves swimmers and runners arrived at Leadbetter beach.
"I am going to go with it and see where it takes and keep from getting dehydrated," said Barry Malony
"It is probably our warmest day of the year but it is sweet down here it is our last night moves of the year so we are looking for a big night," said Wednesday Night Moves owner Jay Campbell.
The weekly summer begins with an ocean swim or Aquathon for those that run, too.
Lifeguards say the the ocean temperatures was 69.
Some swimmers said they didn't need wetsuits but they help with bouyancy.
The run follows with a 5 k or 1 k course.
The youngest runners get ribbons, the rest are entered in a raffle.
Most just do it for the fun of it--but many are serious athletes.
Marie Claire Lamb finished strong.
She said she chose to just run this time around.
