New Mexico Man Arrested for Domestic Battery and Weapons-Related Charges Wednesday

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – A 39-year-old New Mexico man was arrested Wednesday morning at a campsite outside of Santa Paula for domestic violence and gun-related charges.

On July 15, around 10:07 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a reported domestic dispute in the 7900 block of Pine Grove Road in unincorporated Santa Paula stated a press release Thursday from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies made contact with an adult woman and a 39-year-old man, both from Pecos, New Mexico, at a campsite and an investigation resulted in probable cause to arrest the man for domestic battery detailed the local sheriff's office.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, investigators found that the 39-year-old is a convicted felon out of New Mexico and was in possession of an illegal firearm with a threaded barrel.

Under California law, the threaded barrel classified the firearm as an assault weapon and the 39-year-old was also arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as possession of an assault weapon shared the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

The 39-year-old was booked on the above offenses at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and is now awaiting a court date to be arraigned on those charges noted the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
