VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – A 19-year-old Oak Park man was arrested after a standoff outside his home in the 5800 block of Hickory Drive Tuesday.

On July 7, around 1:55 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a report of a man brandishing a firearm on Hickory Drive in Oak Park and while deputies were heading to the scene, dispatchers heard what they believed to be a gunshot while on the line with the person who called in the initial report stated a press release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

Arriving deputies created a perimeter around the home and issued a shelter-in-place warning to nearby residences noted the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, the men had walked to their vehicle after the exchange when the 19-year-old exited the home, pulled a handgun from his waistband, and pointed the weapon at the two men.

The 19-year-old ordered one of the men out of the vehicle at gunpoint and demanded the keys to the vehicle before unsuccessfully searching one of the men for the keys and returning to the home explained the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies attempted to contact the 19-year-old multiple times over an extended period of time before activating the Sheriff's SWAT team stated the countywide law enforcement agency.

While negotiators attempted to speak with the 19-year-old and SWAT Team members reinforced the perimeter, the 19-year-old broke a window, exited the home and attempted to leave the area before being taken into custody without further incident detailed the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

A search warrant was executed at the home and investigators found evidence that two rounds had been fired inside of the home, but did not penetrate the building's walls
