World Champion Robert Garcia Launches New Boxing Gym in Moreno Valley
MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — Former IBF junior world champion and renowned trainer Robert Garcia officially opened the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy (RGBA) in Moreno Valley on Saturday with a grand opening event featuring live music, food, drinks, and guided tours.
“My goal is to bring world-class coaching to fighters everywhere, helping them build successful careers inside and outside the ring,” Garcia said in a statement. “We've produced champions, and we will keep doing it—one fighter at a time, one victory at a time.”
The gym, located at 22500 Town Circle in Riverside County, will offer boxing classes for all skill levels, including a youth program running Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., with open sessions on Fridays.
Garcia, winner of the 2024 Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year award, has trained multiple world champions. His new academy aims to provide top-tier coaching and mentorship to young fighters in Moreno Valley.
At the event, friends, family, and boxing fans gathered to celebrate the opening, calling it the most beautiful gym they had ever seen. His brother, Mikey Garcia, and other boxing figures were in attendance.
Garcia, now 50, competed in the IBF’s lightweight and featherweight divisions for nearly a decade in the 1990s and early 2000s. He won the Super Featherweight Championship in 1998 and retired in 2001 with a 34-3 record.
Following his retirement, Garcia transitioned into coaching, following in the footsteps of his father, Eduardo Garcia, who trained him at Oxnard’s famed La Colonia Youth Boxing Club. He previously opened a separate gym in Oxnard “with the mission of developing champions both in the ring and in life.”
