Berry Extravaganza: California Strawberry Festival Returns to Ventura County Fairgrounds
VENTURA, Calif. - The 38th Annual California Strawberry Festival returns to the Ventura County Fairgrounds Saturday, May 18th through Sunday, May 19th.
The strawberries that are offered at the festival are locally grown in the fields throughout the Central Coast.
Glen Hasegawa, a third-generation strawberry farmer, showed your News Channel the work and labor on what it takes to get these strawberries.
From the fields to the festivals, the strawberries have come out ready for the community to try at this year's festival.
With it being the second year at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, last year the festival was challenged by traffic jams. Leaving visitors stuck in traffic all the way to Rose Avenue.
This year, Strawberry Festival chairman, Dean Kato, said his team has prepared and highly recommends the community to use their free Strawberry Shuttle Express, Metrolink connection, and even carpooling with others.
"I’m challenged by the fact that we did have a parking and traffic problem last year, and my number one goal is to fix that this year," says Kato. "I hope that festival weekend, the reviews are wow, they solve the traffic problem and the, parking issues and they did something right."
