VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - California Highway Patrol reported that a man fatally crashed while riding his motorcycle on Sycamore Drive Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened around 2:50 p.m.

Officers said the man, identified as 22-year-old Daniel Arriola Carreno, was riding his 2017 Harley Davidson eastbound on Sycamore Drive just east of Seventh Street.

For reasons still unclear to police, Carreno's motorcycle drove onto the north shoulder of westbound Sycamore Drive when it reportedly struck a utility pole.

CHP said that, while Carreno was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, he sustained major injuries. They said Carreno was ejected from the motorcycle during the impact before landing in the middle of Sycamore Drive.

A passerby who did not witness the crash stopped to call 911 for help.

CHP said emergency crews tried to resuscitate Carreno, but he was ultimately pronounced dead on the scene.

CHP asks that anyone who witnessed the collision please contact Officer J. Plunkett at the Ventura Area CHP office at (805) 662-2640.
