VENTURA, Calif. - A motorcyclist died Sunday after a solo crash on Highway 126 in Ventura.

California Highway Patrol received a call from a passerby around 10 a.m. who saw a motorcycle with signs of crash damage lying in the ice plant embankment off eastbound Highway 126 near the southbound 101 freeway.

Officers said a 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle appeared to have run off the roadway and its 35-year-old rider was thrown from the bike.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is currently being withheld while his next of kin are notified.

The coroner determined the crash had happened several hours before it was reported.

The investigation into the cause is ongoing.
