The CHP website says the incident occurred around 7:15 p.m on the 2500 block of Highway 154 near Lake Cachuma.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to the crash with three engines, a battalion chief, CALSTAR and AMR.

The first arriving engine reported a single vehicle rollover that was upside down. The car had crashed into an oak tree.

The driver was alone in the car, but needed heavy extrication. They were determined to be deceased on the scene.

The reporting party said that the vehicle was attempting to pass another car on the road before it crashed.

A helicopter was deployed to assist with the crash.
