Ojai Raptor Center hosts Pop-Up Release

Ojai Raptor Center releases Owl in park near Santa Paula

SANTA PAULA, Calif. (KEYT) The Ojai Raptor Center hosted a special Pop Up Release.

The special release happened in Steckel Park in Santa Paula on Tuesday evening.

The center released a rehabilitated Great Horned Owl.

It peaked out of the opened doors of a box and then spreads its wings and soared into the wild.

The pop-up also serves as an education presentation.

Jaclyn DeSantis is the Education Program Manager.

"We want to help these animals and I would say at least 85% of our patients are coming in due to anthropogenic causes, meaning things that humans have caused, harm to either them directly or their environment. So, it really feels like our work is so important because we're kind of either offsetting or preventing," said DeSantis, an education actually, we feel prevents some of these cases from even coming in."

The Ojai Raptor Center is a nonprofit that runs on donations.

There is also an injured bird hotline at 805-649-6884.
