Kiwanis Club, Guadalupe Union School District host BBQ Fundraiser for family of Leyva Oregel

GUADALUPE, Calif. – Kiwanis Club and the Guadalupe Union School District are hosting a BBQ Fundraiser for the family of Leyva Oregel Garcia today at Kermit McKenzie Intermediate School.

Oregel Garcia was found dead in a car near the U.S Mexico border on July 4.

She leaves behind her two daughters who are five and 12-years-old. The community is putting together this fundraiser to help her family.

A security guard found her just after midnight in an SUV parked at an outlet mall in San Ysidro. Detectives said she suffered blunt force trauma to her upper body.

San Diego Police called the death of 32-year-old Leyva Oregel Garcia a homicide and have named her husband, 44-year-old German Armando Luna Salazar, as wanted in connection with the murder.

Lt. Steve Shebloski said this looks like a case of domestic violence.

Luna Salazar was last seen leaving the area on foot. San Diego police said he may have been headed toward Mexico.

Oregel Garcia went missing on July 1 and her mother completed a missing persons report on July 2 with the Guadalupe Police Department. She was last seen leaving her home for work with her husband.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is working alongside San Diego Police Homicide Unit on the case.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Lt. Steve Shebloski at 619-531-2275 or San Diego Police Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or, if you would like to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

A Go Fund Me has been set up to support Oregel Garcia's two daughters here.
