Santa Barbara County Fire provides safety tips for July 4th celebrations
SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara County Fire Department is providing safety tips for people celebrating the 4th of July this week.
The use of fireworks is illegal in Santa Barbara County, except for Santa Maria, Lompoc and Guadalupe.
SBCFD Public Information Officer Scott Safechuck said he wants the public to stay safe when handling fireworks.
He advises people to light fireworks in legal locations, with an open space, away from homes, businesses and vehicles.
Safechuck said it is also best to light fireworks with a lighter that has a handle and keeps it a distance away from your hand and fingers.
He adds to be aware of surroundings, and don't light near vegetations that can easily cause fires.
Most importantly, keep water nearby, let adults handle the fireworks and call 911 in case of any emergencies.
There will also be events through the county, for people to enjoy firework shows without safety concerns.
