Los Padres National Forest issues 60 day closure order for four ranger districts

KEYT

SOLVANG, Calif. – Los Padres National Forest has officially issued a 60 day closure order for four ranger districts effective immediately because of storm-related damages.

Forest employees now begin the process of evaluating the extent of the current damage, ongoing complications as rain continues and necessary repairs to administrative and recreational facilities.

Los Padres Forest Supervisor Chris Stubbs said, “I’m asking the public to heed the closure order while these recovery efforts are underway. My intention is to re-open closed areas as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

In the last month, rainstorms have delivered over 100 percent of the annual rainfall for the region.

This excess of rain has caused flooding, debris flows and slope failures as well as limiting access across the park.

Upcoming rain forecasts are likely to extend the closure and compound existing storm-related damage.
