Santa Maria Planning Commission advises City Council to approve 49 new homes

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The Santa Maria Planning Commission board advised the City Council to approve the Skylight Homes project, a subdivision of 49 new single-family homes.

The project will be located on the 8.89-acre site of the former Hi-Way Drive-In Theater on Santa Maria Way.

This project differs from the current construction north of the Drive-In Theater -- for the Skyview Estates subdivision of approximately 60 new homes.

Some locals said they are concerned about the new construction in Santa Maria and said they are afraid crime will follow.

Planning Commission Director Chuen Ng said, all construction gives the community an opportunity to comment on new projects and has to be approved by city council.
