Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrest man who fired a gun while attempting to flee
SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies arrested a wanted Santa Maria man on Monday morning after he fired a single round from a gun while attempting to flee, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies from the Compliance Response Team (CRT) attempted to contact the 46-year-old man just before 9:30 a.m. on Monday in the area of a home on the 300 block of east Enos Drive for his outstanding warrant for a probation violation, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Raquel Zick.
When the man noticed the detectives, he attempted to flee while pulling a gun from his waistband, Zick said, adding that he fired a single shot in an unknown direction as he drew the gun.
CRT detectives quickly took the man into custody and secured his weapon without firing back, Zick said, adding that both parties were uninjured after the exchange.
"Detectives conducted a thorough canvas of the surrounding area and did not find any bystanders or property damage from the shooting," she added.
The man was booked at the Northern Branch Jail on two felony counts and is being held on an enhanced bail of $1 million.
